This design addresses the affordable housing crisis faced by Little Jamaica. The community has been left out of Toronto's Inclusionary Zoning Plan, meaning new developments do not have to include affordable housing units. To tackle this issue, my proposal shifts the focus towards encouraging homeowners in the area to create smaller, alternative affordable housing options on their existing privately-owned properties. By densifying the community in this way, we can incentivize locals to participate in the solution and provide accessible housing options without relying on developers to include them in their projects, particularly in high-cost housing types like condos.
